Henrico County borders the city of Richmond to the north, west, and east. Its well-planned community of 244 square miles include expansive riverfront along the James and Chickahominy rivers. Graceful farmlands, beautiful residential communities and well developed office and industrial sites have attracted over 260,000 residents, nearly one third of the metropolitan area's population.

Many of the neighboring counties were formed from the original Henricus (later called Henrico) settlement of 1611. Its' legacy includes many notable names from the nation's colonial and Revolutionary times. Christopher Newport, Pocahontas, John Rolfe and Nathaniel Bacon are but a few of the famous names associated with Henrico County's history. Many parks and preserved sites are offered for the public to explore this rich heritage.

Because of Henrico County's exemplary fiscal and governmental management, it has earned a AAA bond rating, one of only twelve in the country. Many leading firms, including five Fortune 500 companies, have chosen to locate facilities in Henrico County. The strategic convergence of roadways, including I-95, I-295 and I-64 contribute to the ease of commuting and conducting business in the area. Additionally, the Henrico County school system has won numerous awards for scholastic excellence and technology leadership. It is consistently among the top ranked school systems in the nation.
